History[]

B.R.A.I.N. is the modern incarnation of a research laboratory called. BioTech, which was founded by Dr. Avery Clarkson and Dr. Victor Shelley in the late 1960's. It was Clarkson's goal to create prosthetic limbs using a combination of advanced bio-engineering and advanced artificial intelligence. He was motivated by his brother Harvey, who returned from the Korean War having lost both legs and one arm. He saw how much Harvey's life was changed due to this injuries, both from a psychological and social standpoint. Eventually, Harvey took his life and his death lingered in Clarkson's heart, but his work was just enough to keep him motivated. He and his college roommate, Victor Shelley founded BioTech and set out to create advanced prosthetics, light years from what was available in the 1950’s. At the dawn of the Space Age, getting a leg harness and a moveable hook was cutting edge. Over forty years ago, an expert in the field and his team of researchers developed bionic implants which looked to revolutionize limb replacement well into the 21st Century. However, Clarkson and Shelley wanted to create something even more advanced. Clarkson and Shelley had a falling out on how the company should be ran and Shelley left on uneasy terms to start his own company. As Shelley hailed from a wealthy family, it was his money that funded the bulk of the laboratory's expenses, which left Clarkson in a tremendous financial bind. Eventually, Shelley's absence proved to be problematic for BioTech and debt began to eat away at its financial stability.  BioTech soon faced bankruptcy, which meant Clarkson's research would come to a halt. Elijah Bishop, director of G.E.N.E.S.I.S., had long been monitoring Clarkson's progress and agreed to pay him enough in government contratcts to get BioTech out of debt, provided he eventually work exclusively for G.E.N.E.S.I.S. The idea of selling out to the government sickened Clarkson, however he reluctantly agreed to Bishop's terms and what had been BioTech, would cease to exist and be reborn as B.R.A.I.N., a sub-division of G.E.N.E.S.I.S.
