Dr. Antonio Hernandez was one of the creators of an experimental device designed to create a wormhole. The device was retro fitted to a space vessel, from which the device would be launched into space. Once the device reached a safe distance from earth’s solar system, it would be remotely activated. However, when there was a malfunction in the device which resulted in an explosion.
Unbeknownst to Hernandez or Mission Control, a spatial anomaly opened and pulled the vessel into an alternate timeline. In his home timeline, it appeared as though the vessel was destroyed, whereas in the alternate timeline, his vessel appeared to emerge from an explosion unscathed.
In this new reality, he was sent with the device to manually man the controls and never heard from again. His crewmates were shocked to see him on board the shuttle and began questioning him. He told them he was actually able to repair the remote to the device after all. The experiment failed to create the wormhole and the crew headed back to earth.
Once home, Dr. Hernandez was puzzled and uneasy in this new reality as here was a widower and before he was a bachelor. In this reality he had a son, where in his other reality he had no children. He didn’t tell anyone of his situation as he would surely be subjected to tests and scrutiny at the hands of his own government. Instead, he continued on with his normal routine as best as he could.
One day while returning home from the observatory where he worked, Dr. Hernandez lost control of his car and was headed over a cliff. A split second before impact, he thought of being able to escape the car and before his car impacted with the bottom of the cliff, he realized he was no longer inside the car but standing on the edge of the cliff, watching his car hit the bottom and burst into flames.
He walked the rest of the way home, trying to determine exactly what had happened. The thought that he wanted to be asleep in his bed made him realize he was suddenly lying in his bed. Dr. Hernandez discovered that he could transport himself from one place to another by thinking of where he wanted to be. He had become a living wormhole.
He conducted further experiments by thinking of a time or date and traveling to that time. At first he was only able to travel forward in time by five minutes at a time. However, before long he had discovered that with extra concentration, he was able to travel backwards as well, unable to travel back any farther in either direction more than five minutes at a time.
Powers and Abilities
- Teleportation: Wormhole has the ability to psionically create a spatial anomaly within the space and time continnuum. He can see where he wishes to travel to in his mind so that he doesn't materialize inside of a solid object or in midair. His portals remain open until he chooses to close them, however their relative size is directly related to the amount of willpower needed to keep it open. So, the larger the portal, the more strain on Wormhole and the less time he is able to keep it open.
- Temporal Rewind: Wormhole can can go forward from a few seconds, to a few minutes.
- Flash Forward: Wormhole can rewind time from a few seconds, to a few minutes.
